Circle helps users quickly find and connect with the right people in their network or organization. Users can access upcoming meetings, view and interact with org charts, and more.
Circle was created as part of Jive's "workstyle movement," also known as Jive-W. We wanted to give our users easy on-the-go access to all critical organization details, including the corporate directory and in-depth user profiles.
Our research showed that people use the corporate directory multiple times a day. The problem is that it’s a terrible experience. There are often HR systems or intranets that try to facilitate access, but people rarely use these systems. Instead, they turn to a product that provides a less-than-optimal experience: Microsoft Outlook. Circle took the old clunky experience and modernized it for the needs of today's mobile workforce.
Right from the start we decided that we wanted to get user feedback early and often, and that we’d get a working prototype as quickly as possible so that we could iterate from there. We had our basic flow and visual architecture of the app and after a few weeks we were ready with our first prototype.
Once we started user testing we discovered a few challenges and refinements that needed to be done. For example: a more prominent search bar, to facilitate the most common use-case for the app. After a few more iterations Circle V.Alpha was born.
At this point we started working on fine-tuning the app, adding animations and interactions that gave it an extra layer of finesse without adding unnecessary weight.
Because this app was born out of real user need, and we had ensured that we heard our customers’ voice throughout the process, we emerged with a polished and perfected product. We received rave reviews in the app store and the general feedback was very positive.
At the end of the day we learned that a prototype is the best tool to check the value of your product, saving a lot of money and time in the long run.
